I write a regular column for Llama Banner magazine about interesting or useful sites on the Net. They have graciously agreed to allow me to reprint the earlier columns from 96 and 97. This was the third column. As we all know, sites move, change and some simply disappear with time, so if something is no longer online... you missed it. I've disconnected the links to sites I can no longer find so you don't waste your time. Click here for Llama Banner subscription info. You may *not* reprint this for any publication, handout, site, etc. Yes, you can link to it.

| Castalia's Rammalita at 1 week. |
It's time to bring in some feminine help, so Rammalita gets her shot at computer play and I get to run my fingers through her silky, black curls. (I'm not sure that computer 101 is basic llama training, but her new owners can brag that she's spent time on the Net!)
There are a herd of new llama and alpaca sites on the Net. It's a paradise of info and beautiful ranches out there. One of my favorite parts of cyberspace is being able to email breeders I've heard about for years, as well as smaller breeders that I'm just meeting. What a great way to find what I'm looking for and meet interesting new folks along the way. A search on lamas in any major engine or catalog will bring up sites for further exploration.
Lita wonders why, if Netscape is available for free, do people pay for it in the store? Netscape gives away their product in order to build market share. At this moment (2-21-97) Netscape Navigator is the most popular browser on the Internet, and a large part of that is due to their success in 'giving away' their technology. Netscape then takes their name recognition and sells other products, like web servers. Actually, if you keep Netscape for 90 days, you’re supposed to pay for it, but no one is going to force you to.
Lita decided to send flowers, postcards, greeting cards via email and it took a cup of grain to get her to stop. Virtual Flowers was her favorite, but I really think taste testing the graphics was her real agenda. She also tried the following sites, several include music and animated graphics. Blue Mountain Arts' Electronic Greeting Cards, Pagan Postcard
or TV Guide Postcards.
Lita is a friendly gal and wanted to know more about email listserv. So we browsed CataList, the catalog of listserv lists. We had a choice of 12,360 public listserv lists on the Net, and could search by interest, host country or number of subscribers. She was really into the fiber lists, wanting to brag about her fine fiber. She’s also strong willed and was quite miffed when I refused to allow her an email account of her own or to join 17 new lists. To calm her down I told her she could list her fiber for sale at Fibers on the Net. I explained first we’d have to shear her this Spring, but she developed a sudden desire to change the subject.
Then we downloaded PointCast. This is a great news program that allows you get new info on products, services and many choices in news sources.
My Dad has serious heart problems and Lita and I learned more about being organ donors at Organ and Tissue Donation: Issues and Answers. Please consider the option of saving or enriching the quality of someone else’s life.
Since Lita is fascinated by little people I took her to explore The National 4-H Council which has links to 4-H sites around the country. And we checked out, Bess, the Internet Retriever, which was chosen the best local site for kids in the Seattle Times Best of the Web Contest.
It’s now after 4 AM and Lita is obsessed with the Net and I’m ready to fall over. Drop by the Cozy Corner or pop us an email about your favorite site or a topic you’d like more info about. Happy Cyber Trails til next time! Smiles & sleepy yawns, Chelle
