ORT 502 Elements of Global Citizenship:
Prerequisite Activities Please Note: In order to become an active participant on this course, items B, C, and D, below must be completed and the following statement sent to the course administrator:
Before doing these prerequisites, please be familiar with the Course Description and Introduction. They are now part of a new book, The Web of Life Imperative, that contains the complete course. This introduction to the book and course are referred to in the course so it is best to become familiar with them.( They may be partially downloaded in Word at Describe and Intro) A. Once you obtain the email addresses of the course participants make a list of all of the interact group members in your e-mail address book, or use whatever batch/group/alias mail system that works for your email program. All course-related e-mail should go to your entire interact group. B. If you have not done so, write a 1-2 paragraph letter of introduction to your interact group. Include a brief biographical sketch and the reasons you are taking this course. Save this statement and share it with your interact list on the starting date. Please verbalize in this statement the social contract that you are making with the remaining course members. Please assure them that they can trust you to supportively participate and complete the course with them. This page is for students once they have completed the prerequsite material. C. Visit the Survey of Participants (You may download the Survey Word File) and select what you think are the two most important subject areas identified in the questions and statements found in parts two through six of the survey (select the statements as you read through parts 2-6 , select two statements from each part, 10 statements total.) Write a paragraph that integrates these statements with respect to them being a reflection of some of your desires, beliefs and values. On starting date, Post the paragraph to your interact group after you have posted your introduction. Then respond to the introductions of the other participants. D . Upon completing the Survey of Participants (C above) study and gain a working knowledge the Course Instructions page. (You may download the Instructions Word File) It is a compilation of questions and answers from the past seven years of this course. It also contains a model of the course in action. The Instruction Page(s) are actually the beginning of the course and are key to having you know how to help the course run smoothly. Additional optional readings are suggested there, time and interest permitting. E. Reminder: This course, including the Instructions, uses articles and activities in public use elsewhere on our website. If you have already read or done material it presents, skim the article or activity for anything you find anything additionally attractive in it. Repeating attractive activities always brings about new growth. One thing to learn from repeated material is what purpose it serves for you and how you can find it again, or bring others to it, later. F. If you want to observe your personal growth and competency from this course you are invited to respond to our pre-course question inventory. Upon completing the course do this inventory again and compare you post course-score and answers with your pre-course score and answers
