Castalia's Blaze of Glory

Castalia's Blaze of Glory
Castalia's Blaze of Glory    5-4-93    111943

Blaze is the 3rd daughter (4th cria), of WM Altaira, one of my original, classic style dams. Blaze is a Legend's Rammas daughter and is the tallest llama on my farm, taller than her 1/2 sister (Tess) who is 48" at the withers. I need to measure Blaze again now that she's done growing.

Blaze got her name from her obvious blazed face and the Bon Jovi song. She is two weeks old in this photo. She was 39 lbs. at birth and her first cria was 30 lbs. She births easily, has plenty of milk and enjoys her babies a lot. Blaze is now owned by Kelly and Mark McWhorter of Moonbeam Llamas in Olympia. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her crias.

Castalia's Shade Maker
Blaze's first cria was born 7-18-95. He's a Bauernheim's True Colors son, named Castalia's Shade Maker (145862). He is dark brown with a white tip on his nose and as sweet and willing as the day is long. He's shown here at 3 days old. He is now owned by Mt Silcox Llamas and is one of Mike's favorite buddies. Here is a photo they sent me of him from 9-98. There's a photo of Shade (yawning) as a newborn here.

Castalia's Niello Glory
Blaze's first daughter (second cria) is a full sister to Shade Maker. Born 9-2-96 at 28 lbs., Castalia's Niello Glory (176709) is a black gal with dark red cheek markings, the white you see here and two short, front, white sox. At 1 year her fiber was 20.4 microns and I sheared her shortly after this photo in Spring of 98 and her fiber is lovely. She does have some guard hair which keeps her fiber very nice.

Niello is now owned by Our Lady of the Rock on Shaw Island. I hope Mother Hildegard will enjoy owning her as much as I have. I'll look forward to seeing her future crias.

Castalia's Blazin' Mesa Boogie
Blaze's most recent criation is Castalia's Blazin' Mesa Boogie, born 34 lbs. on 9-10-97. His sire is the beautiful Bauernheim's Firedancer. Mesa is very long wooled with soft fiber and lots of curiousity and presence. All of Blaze's crias are smart and sweet, but Mesa seems to "watch" people more than the others. He seems to want to understand everything that goes on.

Unfortunately Mesa's legs are not straight, so he will be gelded soon, at about 2½. I don't know if this is because he was a fall baby, or if he just put all his energy into fiber. Regardless, he'll make a wonderful buddy for a spinner.
