I write a regular column for Llama Banner magazine about interesting or useful sites on the Net. They have graciously agreed to allow me to reprint the earlier columns from 96 and 97. This was the fourth column. As we all know, sites move, change and some simply disappear with time, so if something is no longer online... you missed it. I've disconnected the links to sites I can no longer find so you don't waste your time. Click here for Llama Banner subscription info. You may *not* reprint this for any publication, handout, site, etc. Yes, you can link to it.
I’ve decided I’m going to do this issue’s column without the aid of a llama. Seems some nasty rumors are filtering through the barn... something about certain farms having computers and online access strictly for their llamas. I calmly explained I couldn’t afford a second computer for them and I’d try to work out a schedule that would allow each llama their own 20 minutes of computer time, but that wasn’t appreciated and it’s beginning to sound like a scene from Mutiny on the Bounty out there.
Did you know that chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying or that bats always turn left when exiting a cave? For more odd facts explore Strange, But True! Unfortunately, our society has it’s share of human predators. Perhaps you can help find a stolen or missing child by searching Missing Kids.
I’m one of those people who can forget their own phone number, let alone birthdays and anniversaries, so Never Forget is a great help. Need answers concerning things like Unclaimed Property or Birth Records and DMV checks? Try WebGator. For general searches checkout Dogpile and get results from 20+ of the other search engines and catalogs.
Why haven’t any of us tried starting a llama conversation in the Critter section of the Pet Channel? And I couldn’t find any llama sightings in the Hiking sections of The Mountain Zone or GORP - Great Outdoor Recreation. More than a little disappointing!
Admit it, you have a favorite actor or actress. I was able to find 31 pages about Brad Pitt and 30 to Denzel Washington at Links to the Stars. At CelebSite you can search by birthday, news or name for your favorite film or TV star, publisher, writer or musician. Your Guide To The Movies has a database which includes the cast, credits and reviews for more than 30,000 movies released in the US. Sometimes a bit of glamour is fun after a long day of trimming toenails and cleaning the barn.
Did you know there’s an online and a printed 1998 Edition of "The Farmer's Guide to the
Internet”? I love exploring TVA Rural Studies. They have great info and many informative links, such as Animal Health Information which contains fact sheets, technical reports, and writings about health monitoring and diseases.
Little Springer just showed up at the door with a note written in llama toeprints. It says, “We want online or else!”. Or else what? While I pondered the possibilities, Springer took a shot at the computer and came up with the International Llama Registry and started filling out his own registration form online. I wonder if he’ll do his own photographs too... and if they can use a computer, why can’t they clean the barn? I think I’m being scammed by my own sweet (?) llamas!
Drop by the Cozy Corner or pop us an email about your favorite site or a topic you’d like more info about. Happy Cyber Trails til next time! Smiles & sleepy yawns, Chelle
