St. David's Episcopal Church in Friday Harbor, was established in 1954, built their current church building in 1967, and recently completed a major remodeling. The Friday Harbor Branch of our Lutheran congregation organized and began worship at St. David's temporarily before moving to St. Francis Catholic Church in late 1978, and we remained there for 31 years! Then on Valentine's Day in 2010, the Lutherans returned to St. David's where we have greater opportunity to share education and service work with our Episcopal cousins. Relationships with both congregations have been rich through the years. In 1999 our Episcopal and Lutheran denominations formed a closer ecumenical relationship in a major document, Called to Common Mission, which encourages and commits to close cooperation on many levels.
